Important Things You Should Know:
- Gotta Generate Challan: When you’re using the e-Pay Tax service on the e-Filing portal, you absolutely have to get a Challan Reference Number (CRN) for your direct tax payment. Every challan you make will have its own unique CRN.
- Login or Not: You can get to the e-Pay Tax stuff either before you login (it’s under “Quick Links” on the homepage) or after you login on the Income Tax e-Filing portal (www.incometax.gov.in).
- If Your Bank Ain’t There: If your bank isn’t on the list for Net Banking, no worries! You can still pay your taxes using NEFT/RTGS or by picking the Payment Gateway option, which might have other banks. Right now, the Payment Gateway option supports banks like Canara Bank, Federal Bank, HDFC Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Bank of Maharashtra, and State Bank of India.
- Check Your Payments: After you’ve paid successfully, all your payment deets and the Challan Receipt will be chilling under the “Payment History” tab on the e-Pay Tax page of the e-Filing portal.
